Starting a New Habit

This is a great time to start a new habit. How do you do it? Doctor Anderson’s The Habits of Health book shows us how.

1.  Find a way to make a challenging activity enjoyable. The habit you install will be easier and perhaps even fun.

Example: Exercise every morning by listening to music or an audiobook. Attaching a positive emotion with something that’s difficult will help your brain say, “It’s time, let’s do it.”

Know that habits are triggered by a cue. For example, You see the remote, pick it up, and click on the TV, without any thought. A cue could be an odor, place, or even a person.
If you are trying to get rid of a bad habit, try to identify the cue and eliminate it.
Trying to create a new habit – develop a new cue.
Example: Put your exercise clothes in a place you see them first thing in the morning.
